A complete renovation of an average bathroom usually costs between 15,000 and 30,000 euros, depending on size, fittings and whether pipework needs to be relaid. A partial renovation costs correspondingly less.
A complete bathroom renovation usually takes two to four weeks, including demolition, rough installation, tiling work and final fitting. Good coordination between the trades involved can often shorten this time.
For age-appropriate, barrier-free bathroom conversions, KfW offers low-interest loans and grants, and the long-term care insurance fund also contributes to costs where a care level has been assessed. Individual advice clarifies the exact entitlements.
During a bathroom renovation you can usually keep living in the house, provided a second bathroom or a temporary solution is available. If it is the only bathroom in the house, a short-term alternative is recommended during the core construction phase.
A pure bathroom renovation without changing the floor plan normally does not require a building permit. As soon as load-bearing walls are altered or floor plans shifted, consultation with the building authority or a structural engineer becomes necessary.
